“My first inspection was my most rewarding one. As I was on the roof, I noticed the shingles and sheeting were deteriorating as if the attic was not vented properly. However, the roof had ridge vents and soffit vents that were not blocked. I asked the homeowner the age of the roof, and he informed me that it was only ten years old. Having known this information, and knowing that the type of roof I was inspecting would normally get 30 years of use, I went into the attic where I found a furnace vent pipe buried under the installation and not hooked up. I informed the homeowner to stay out of his house until this problem was fixed. He promptly called the furnace company to come evaluate the problem. The furnace company informed the homeowner that carbon monoxide had been leaking in the attic for quite some time, posing a serious threat to anyone inside the home. The feeling of knowing that I possibly saved this homeowner’s life motivates me to perform my job as thoroughly as possible every time to ensure the safety and stability of the home.”
